This study investigates self-perception differences between
children with alexithymia and their typically developing peers. A total of 122 children, including 81 typically developing and 41 with alexithymia, participated in the research. Using the Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20) and the Berkeley Puppet Interview (BPI) as assessment tools, we explored various dimensions of self-perception, including academic competence, motivation, social skills, and peer acceptance. The findings indicate that alexithymia significantly impacts self-perception, with affected children reporting lower scores in key areas compared to their peers. Moreover, demographic factors such as gender and education were found to have less influence on self-perception than the presence of alexithymia itself. This research highlights the need for targeted interventions to support the emotional and social well-being of children with alexithymia, as well as further studies to understand the role of educational environments in shaping self-perceptionx
